What are the best dishwasher tablets to buy in the UK?
Our top pick for Dishwasher Tablets in the UK is the Astonish All In 1 Dishwasher Tablets Lemon Fresh (100 Tablets).
Astonish All In 1 Lemon Fresh is the top pick for UK households — an all-in-one tablet with built-in salt and rinse aid, suitable for all water types including hard water, and supplied in 100-tablet packs that suit households running the dishwasher daily. Vegan, cruelty-free and phosphate-free.
Dishwasher tablets are one of the most frequently bought household consumables in the UK, and choosing the right one can make a real difference to cleaning performance, glassware longevity, and running costs. The UK's hard water — particularly in the South East and Midlands — means limescale build-up is a genuine concern, so all-in-one tablets that include salt and rinse aid action are especially practical. Modern formulas have advanced considerably: the best tablets tackle dried-on food, grease, and tea stains in short eco cycles without pre-rinsing. Whether you prioritise cleaning power, eco credentials, or value for money, there are strong options across every price point. This guide covers the top picks available on Amazon UK right now, including premium performers and budget-friendly everyday options.
Buying guide
What should you look for in Dishwasher Tablets?
1Choose all-in-one tablets that include built-in salt and rinse aid action — especially important in UK hard-water areas like London, the Midlands, and East Anglia.
2Check the tablet count per pack and the cost per wash rather than the headline price — a 100-pack is usually significantly cheaper per tablet than a 24-pack.
3Look for tablets that work in short 30–45 minute cycles if you run quick washes regularly — not all tablets dissolve fully in fast programmes.
4Eco-certified tablets (like Ecover) use biodegradable, plant-based ingredients and phosphate-free formulas — a good choice if environmental impact matters to you.
5For heavily soiled loads or glassware, premium tablets with multiple gel chambers or grease-fighting agents deliver noticeably better results than budget options.
Our process
How do we choose our picks?
We don’t lab-test products ourselves. Instead we synthesise current Amazon UK listings and published specs into clear, honest recommendations. We earn a commission if you buy through our links, but that never changes which products we rank.
Current UK availability
We check each pick against live Amazon UK catalogue data rather than last year’s model lists. Stock moves fast, so a listing can sell out after we publish.
Published specs
We compare manufacturer specifications so each pick is right for a real budget and use-case.
UK-specific fit
We factor in UK voltage and plug/fitting standards — details that generic global lists miss.

Editor's Note
UK tap water hardness varies significantly by region — London, the South East, and East England have some of the hardest water in Europe, with calcium carbonate levels exceeding 300mg/L in parts. This makes all-in-one tablets with built-in salt action essential for most UK households, as limescale deposits can damage spray arms and heating elements over time. If you run eco or half-load cycles at lower temperatures (40–50°C), prioritise tablets specifically formulated to dissolve quickly. Budget tablets may leave a white residue if the water temperature isn't high enough to activate them fully.
Our Take
UK hard water areas wreak havoc on appliances — limescale resistance isn't optional, it's essential. The Astonish All In 1 Dishwasher Tablets Lemon Fresh is our top recommendation: a 100-tablet all-in-one pack with built-in salt and rinse aid, suitable for all water types including hard water. The Ecover All-in-One Dishwasher Tablets Mandarin & Lemongrass is the pick if you want a plant-based formula with a plastic-free wrapper. Avoid the cheapest unbranded options on Amazon UK — UK consumer protection only helps if the seller is still trading.
Questions & answers
Frequently asked questions
Do dishwasher tablets work in short 30-minute cycles?
Not all tablets are designed for short cycles. Check the tablet's stated cycle compatibility before buying. Budget tablets may not fully dissolve at lower temperatures, leaving a white residue on dishes.
Do I still need to add salt and rinse aid if I use all-in-one tablets?
All-in-one tablets include salt and rinse aid action, so for most UK households they are sufficient on their own. However, if you live in a very hard water area such as parts of London or Kent, adding dedicated dishwasher salt alongside your all-in-one tablets can provide extra protection against limescale build-up.
How many dishwasher tablets do I need per month?
A typical UK household running the dishwasher once a day uses around 30 tablets per month. Running it twice daily, a 100-tablet pack like Astonish will last under two months. Buying in larger packs reduces the cost per wash considerably.
